E. Coli

Lab results came back today on Kaidens kidney infection. We found out that it is E. Coli. Yep, you heard me right, E. Coli.

Before I go on let me catch you up on the latest happenings.

Last night Kaidens fever came back and he was really not feeling well again. I gave him some more Ibuprofen and then put him and the girls in bed. I called his Dr. and talked to him about it and he was a little concerned about the fever coming back, especially with all of the antibiotics that he has had in the last two days. He called another Dr., who is actually our regular family Dr., and they both decided that we needed to take him up to the hospital and have them do a couple of tests on him again. So I gave my mom a call and she ended up coming and sitting at our house so that we didn't have to get the girls out of bed. (Have I mentioned that she is an amazing mother and that I couldn't do all of this without her??). Of course, by the time we got up to the hospital/ER Kaiden's fever was gone and he was feeling great. I hate that. Obviously I want my little boy to feel better but you know it is just like when your car is acting weird and you take it in and have someone look at it and it runs great. You cant fix something that you can't hear/see. Anyway, they ended up doing another urine sample and drawing some more blood (the poor kid feels like a pin cushion, but he did awesome!!) Later our family Dr., who I absolutely love, came in and visited with us. He is really concerned about a kidney infection with no bladder infection or other identifying symptoms. But he did say that his urine sample was almost normal and that meant that the Rosephin shots were doing their job!!! That was really great news. He said that a continued fever with a kidney infection is normal and that we just needed to stay on top of the Ibuprofen. They sent us home and told us to push a lot of fluids and then go in to the clinic tomorrow for another Rocephin shot. Oh, poor kid. I thought he was going to start crying right there but he did really well.

This morning Kaiden woke up with no fever and feeling great. He really wanted to go to school so off he went. I had to go and pick him up at about 11:30 to go in and get his last and final Rocephin shot (we hope, keep your fingers crossed). He did pretty good with it but it is still such a painful shot it just kills me every time he has to get it. While I was there the final lab results from the first blood draw came back and that is when we found out that he got E. Coli.

We are still not sure how he got E. Coli and why no one else did. One of the options is that one of his internal organs is having a problem and has caused leak or something that has got into his kidney. The other option is simple just from not washing his hands well enough after using the bathroom. We would love for that to be the cause. As gross as that may sound. It would be such an easy fix. So yes we had a big hand washing lesson/party today and we now have a hand washing song. Keira has also become the hand washing mother. She listens and if you sing the song too fast then, she lets you know. If she doesn't think that you got enough soap, she lets you know. And if you don't rinse good enough, she lets you know. And for those of you who know Keira, you know!!

So things are going great now. We are hoping to have a relaxing weekend with family and enjoy the first day in 3 of NO NEEDLES!!! Thanks to all those of you who have voiced your concern and we have felt very loved lately. We hope all of you stay well and remember, WASH YOUR HANDS!!!!

Well at least you know what it is. That is better than not knowing, right? Hopefully he will recover fast and be good to go! And let me know if you guys need anything! We'll keep you in our prayers!
