****Warning some to these pictures are pretty YUCKY!!*****
Keira had her eye surgery on Friday.
We got there at about 8:30 am to check in and they took her back to get ready around 9:00. They gave her a totally cool mask, that was pink and smelled like strawberries, and told her that she was going to use it to blow up a ballon. And if she did really good a blowing up the ballon that she could get a popcicle after they were all done.
She was super excited and could not wait to start. After the regular vital signs and questions we waited until the nurse came and said that they were ready for her. We sat and watched movies while waiting, they even had fun princess ones, and they brought her nice warm blankets to snuggle in while watching the movie. And kept coming back to make she was warm and comfortable.
She felt like she was the princess and everything had been catered just for her. She didn't stop smiling the whole time.
They were finally ready for her just before 10:00. And when they asked her if she wanted to
walk with them or ride on the bed there was no decision to be made. Of course she was going to ride on the bed. That is what a princess would do right?
They sent me back to the waiting room and told me to expect to wait about an hour. So I settled in with my magazines and ipod to wait it out. I had just past the half an hour mark when they came to get me. WOW!! A half an hour and she was done. I couldn't believe it.
They kept her in recovery while I waited to talk with her Dr./Surgen about how it went. He said that things went really well and he was excited about how good her eye looked. He siad that she did have a little bit of scar tissue from the first surgery at 10 months old but that it looked like it had healed up very well and that he expected the same this time.
After a little while they came and told me that they were ready for me that she was coming out of recovery. They brought her in to me and set her on my lap. She was out of it. She was just like a limp doll. They had given her a shot of pain meds while in recovery and told me that it would make her pretty sleepy. Plus she still had all of the anesthesia from surgery. She was pretty out of it. Then she sat strait up and asked where her pink mask was. HAHAHA. We all laughed and the nurse went to go find it for her. She fell back to sleep pretty quick. The nurse asked if I wanted the TV on while I waited and Keira said "Cartoon please" but never even opened her eyes. She was pretty funny. A little while later she was asking why she couldn't see the cartoons. I told her it was because she needed to open her eyes. "Oh!" she said and then opened them. She was just cracking me up.
Check out that picture. It just cracks me up. She is in heaven. What else could a little girl ask for than a chair to push her around in, pink sunglasses and a big cup of apple juice. Here are a couple of pictures of her about an hour after we got back to my sister's house. Warning this is when we see the yucky pictures)
As you can tell she is still pretty drugged up and "loopy". She did very well. About 3 hours later she was out jumping on the tramp with the kids. It made me a little nervous and so I stood out there and made sure that she or the others weren't playing too rough. Here is a picture that I took today. The yellow is from the blood going away. As you can tell the blood made it's way to the other side of her eye. She is pretty self contious about it. She keeps telling me that she doesn't feel pretty. She is worried about going to school tomarrow beacuse people will see it. We will see how it looks and how she feels tomarrow.
